Construction Document Management Eliminates Global Connectivity Barriers for Influit Production Solutions

Founded in July 2014, Influit Production Solutions (Influit) offers various solutions to the oil and gas industry. With the design portion of their projects happening in Indonesia and the engineering side happening in the UK, Influit needed a collaborative tool to manage global data.

The Need for Cloud-based Collaboration Across Geographies

Process flow sheets are critical to many of the projects delivered by Influit and inform the entire design and construction lifecycle. However, the team found that manually marking up design amendments and comments on printed drawings, scanning and sharing them via email, increased the risk of mistakes. Teams also found that there could be confusion over the latest revision of a drawing because they lacked the collaboration tools that gave them access to the latest documents on a project at their fingertips.

To overcome these issues, the team introduced BIM 360 within Autodesk Construction Cloud™ on a particular project where collaboration was taking place amongst colleagues in the UK and Indonesia.

“Around 18 months ago, we began exploring tools for our design operations, and that’s when we were introduced to BIM 360. We were at that time working on projects in Iraq and Madagascar, so being able to collaborate efficiently and improve connectivity across our global teams is important.”

Supporting Global Teams through Effective Document Management

BIM 360 provided a wealth of data management and construction project management capabilities that immediately made Influit’s work safer and more effective. BIM 360 made it possible for colleagues in the UK and Indonesia to access the same documents and collaborate remotely without lag or concern about versions. As soon as the teams in the UK made amendments or suggestions on drawings and process flow sheets, they were instantly visible to colleagues in Indonesia.

“This was a game-changer. One of our team members asked me what the technology could do for him because he lived in Cornwall, and I joked that he could mark up drawings on the beach. To my delight, he came in the following week telling me that his most recent mark-ups had travelled 6,987 miles in the blink of an eye from Cornwall to Bhutan, thanks to BIM 360.”

BIM 360 Data Management Saves Time and Transforms Relationships

The time savings and collaboration benefits of BIM 360 have been so significant that Influit is now rolling BIM 360 out across additional projects and stakeholders. Their clients are also impressed with the ease of use and the extra layers of transparency provided by the tool. In BIM 360, they can see everything happening and even which particular team members have made comments or additions. There is never any confusion about the direction or status of the project.

There are few as complex and globally impactful as oil and gas projects. Influit relies on BIM 360 for document management to ensure safety, time, and cost savings. Along the way, they build trust, deliver quality results, and establish their reputation as a leading global provider of oilfield construction services.

“Not only can the team collaborate in real-time on projects, but it’s also created an additional layer of trust and transparency. We’re able to add comments to documents, drawings, and models assigning our names against them, which improves accountability on our projects.”
